Pains Of Loss

"Shikamaru! RUN!" Ino cried out as she saw five enemy ninja sneak up on her friend.
The group of Konoha ninja (Ino, Shikamaru, Kiba, Shino, Chouji, Hinata, and TenTen) was caught on enemy ground. Kiba and TenTen were both dead by now. Hinata and Chouji were injured and not much use. Only Ino, Shino, and Shikamaru were still able to fight.
"Shadow possession jutsu!" Shino turned to see his friend grab the five ninja of the Waterfall. "Shino! Now!"
With a quick use of chakra, Shino had gotten his bugs to start eating the enemy ninja. He also managed to see their team leader run to Ino, who at the moment was struggling with a strong ninja.
With a quick motion, the brown haired leader managed to put himself in between his friend and the enemy. Not only that, but shield her from the kunai the Waterfall ninja slashed at her with.
Ino watched with wide eyes as she watched her friend fall. "Shika!" She flinched as Shino's bugs killed the enemy ninja. "SHIKA!"
Shikamaru looked up at his teammate. "I-Ino…" he coughed out. "You…okay?" He was shuddering from the wound he had gotten in saving her.
"HOW?" She couldn't believe him. He managed to get himself slashed up saving her and yet he still asks her how she is!
"Cause…it's the way this is…" he muttered knowingly.
"The way what is?" She questioned, confusion on her sad features.
He never answered her. Instead his eyes drifted closed.
"Shika! Answer me!" she cried as tears started to run down her pretty face.
Shino walked over and picked the leader up. "Ino…he's gone…" the bug-ninja mumbled as he looked at the form in his arms. He then looked at the body of his friend Kiba. "We will take the night to heal Hinata and Chouji."
Ino looked uncertainly at Chouji, who looked right back at her…sad. He knew his best friend was gone now. Gone forever. Never to return. Tears slipped from his eyes, running down his chubby cheeks. "He's gone, Ino…gone," he murmured softly.
"NO! YOU'RE WRONG! SHKA IS NOT DEAD! HE'S NOT!" Ino cried, her voice starting to get hoarse. "He can't be…" Tears fell from her shocking blue eyes at more of a speed.
Shino looked sadly at his teammates. It was a loss for him, as well. He also lost his first friend, too. "Kiba…" he mumbled, hating the feeling of sorrow it brought to him. "I' sorry…I couldn't save you…Kiba." The name rolled off his tongue, drowning the bug-controller with guilt and grief.
Hinata barely managed to pull herself up. Walking over to Shino, she leaned on him. "Why did this happen, Shino?" she questioned, her face soaked in still falling tears as she thought about her three friends who had just died.
Shino looked over to her before hugging his friend with one arm, holding Shika's body in the other. "That's like asking why you're born…nobody really knows…" His voice was soft and filled with the sound of loss. "We'll be ok though…right?"
The shy girl just looked over at her friend and comrade. "Yes…for them…we must…" Her sincere words touched every single one of them there.
"Yes…" Ino concurred, her voice shaking from realization. "We must…"
