Disclaimer: I do not own Jonny Quest or related characters.

A/N: Another one on the list of "re-write at some point". I am really not happy with how this turned out, but I'm still publishing it just so I don't forget about it.

Estella shifted and rolled slightly, her swollen belly making the movement more difficult than it should have been, to rest her head on her husband's chest. Race, who had just gotten home from a long mission, wrapped am arm around her, "Did I wake you?" He asked quietly.

"Your son won't stop kicking me." Estella grumbled in reply. As if on cue, the baby kicked again.

"Daughter." Race corrected as he rested a hand on her belly.

"Just because you want a girl doesn't mean it is one." Estella retorted.

"Just because you want a boy doesn't mean it is one." Race shot back without missing a beat.

Honestly, it didn't really matter to them whether or not the baby turned out to be a boy or girl. As long as he or she was healthy who cared what the baby's gender was? That didn't stop them from having this argument several times however.

"I missed you." Race murmured, dropping the argument - for now. The baby kicked at his hand and he chuckled, "Yes, you too, little one."

"We miss you too." Estella replied quietly. Quite frankly she wasn't sure who had missed him more, her or the baby. The baby kicked again, causing Estella to scowl. She was really starting to get sick of that.

She closed her eyes when Race began to slowly rub her belly. Maybe now the baby would calm down and let her sleep.

Kick. Nope.

"Calm down little one." Race murmured, "You need to let Mommy sleep or else she'll be cranky tomorrow, and we don't want that."

"Apparently he does." Estella grumbled when the baby kicked again.

"She." Race muttered under his breath prompting Estella to roll her eyes in the darkness.

There was another kick and she glared down at her swollen belly. "Stop. It." She hissed.

Race continued to rub her belly in slow soothing circles. It usually never failed to get the baby to calm down. Usually. It didn't seem to be working well tonight. "Just relax." He murmured before kissing the top of her head. "The baby will relax when you do."

"How can I relax when it keeps kicking me every few seconds?" Estella growled.

"Just try." Race answered.

Estella scowled at him, not that it did much good in the dark room. Then, she rested her head against his chest again. She closed her eyes, listening to the beating of his heart. She didn't even notice when she fell asleep.

A/N: Okay, because I'm not sure if I'll ever get to do the nightmare episode I'm currently thinking of I'll just go ahead and say it. For my universe, Jessie's "worst nightmare" is that her father is secretly disappointed he got a daughter instead of a son and that she'll never be good enough. That's why having Race and Estella argue about the baby's gender with Race insisting it's a girl is funny to me.
