Chapter One
Max
"Come on, guys! Just a little further!" I yelled back at the other members of my flock. We've been flying for almost six hours now, and the caffeine we had earlier is beginning to drain out of the youngins.
"Max, can't we take a break?! We're tired," Nudge whined sleepily. I angled my wings to fly in an arc back to the mocha colored bird girl.
"Hang on, sweetie. We're almost there." I rubbed her back for a bit before going to do the same for Angel and Gazzy.
"I don't think we can last much longer, Max," Angel muttered. I looked at Fang and Iggy who, just like me, are still going in strong.
"Maybe we should…!"
Before I could finish my sentence, I felt a sharp pain in my stomach. Looking down, I saw an arrow lodged in there. 'Really? An arrow? Who still uses arrows?' I thought.
"Max? You're falling," Gazzy pointed out. I waved Fang away as he joined my side.
"I'm fine. I just…." I sputtered as two more arrows went into my stomach. 'The hell is going on?'
"MAX!" I heard the others yell just as my wings folded in and I began to plummet to the ground. 22,000 feet below us.
~Line Break~
I groaned as I became aware of my surroundings without even opening my eyes. The sound of small beepings. Smell of medicine. Feel of a very uncomfortable bed that is obviously not mine. Oh no, this can't be happening….
I shot up and looked around, the beeping accelerating as my heart raced. No, I can't be back there! We just…!
"Hey, take it easy there. You're fine," a male voice said from my left.
I looked over; the 1st thing I noticed was his lack of a lab coat. With one glance, I deemed him unable to be much of a threat to me.
"Gotta find the others," I muttered as I snatched wires off of me. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the man stand up.
"Um… I don't think you should be doing that."
"Too bad." I got out of the bed and walked toward the door, wobbling slightly. When he put his hand on my arm, I snatched away and glared at him. "Never… touch me… again. Ever," I growled. I spun back around and walked down the hall until I saw Fang and Iggy in a room with another man.
"Guys, let's get the others and blow this joint," I said as I threw open the door. They got to their feet.
"Shouldn't you be resting right now?" I turned around and saw a woman holding two cups of coffee. One glance said she's weak. Another said her eyes and stance tell a different story.
"No, I should be halfway to Arizona with my five siblings and… dog." My muscles tightened as she shook her head. "Nick, James, let's go find the others and get out of here." I brushed past the woman and made it five steps away before her words stopped me.
"There are no others like you here, Max. It's just you three."
There are three things wrong with those sentences. Re-read them if you hadn't figured them out.
I am doing this by recommendation. If this story bombs (which I doubt, but still), it's only because it's hard to combine NCIS and Maximum Ride without going OOC. But I'm trying. Tell me what you think.
