In his eyes, she could see laughter and light, and at times, she could see such mischievousness that, for just a rare and fleeting moment of fantasy, she wondered about his Irish heritage and if perhaps there was a wee bit of the little people therein. She would always chastise herself afterwards as she knew full and well that he was only a mutant, the same as herself and the others. Yet then musical laughter would bubble from that charming mouth that haunted her every good dream, and she would wonder again.
In his eyes, she could see light, merriment, and hope for a better future for them all. In his eyes, she could clearly read his feelings for her, but they never spoke of them for his duty to Moira and her fear to open up to him or any one, yet she knew almost every time she blew him away.
When she was down on her luck, he was always there. He offered many reassuring words over the years, and she knew his strong shoulders were always open to her though she only once took him up on that. In his eyes, she could always find reassurance, hope, and his belief in her and their children when she needed them the most.
All the emotions she'd come to rely on finding in his eyes disappeared one night, however, and it was on that night that a part of Emma Frost's soul and her heart died for on that fateful night when they went missing and everything went tragically wrong, he turned away from her. He stopped believing in her, and in his eyes, she could find only fury and hate. He killed her heart and her soul that night with only the way he looked at her and the words his suddenly-venomous mouth spewed at her. She hid it well though in his eyes, she met her doom.
His charming ways and once-offered love ceased to haunt her, but the look of hatred in his eyes and the words he'd yelled at her haunted her from then on until she could stand the pain no more. On that night, she went to him one final time and laid her weary body upon his cold grave.
As she closed her eyes for the last time, she willed Death to take her, and she knew that she would awaken to his eyes. If in his eyes, she again found hatred, she would know she had only exchanged one Hell for another, but if in his eyes, she again found love, she knew she would finally know complete happiness. She knew her chances were slim to none as she awaited her final judgement in his eyes, but when they found her the next morning, she was smiling. They buried her across from him so that she would always be resting peacefully in his eyes.
The End
