A thousand years
AN: this is a Sting song, and I thought it would be a perfect song for this idea that's been pestering me for the last 48 hours. Hope you like it!
A thousand years, a thousand more
A thousand times a million doors to eternity
I may have lived a thousand lives, a thousand times
An endless turning stairway climbs
To a tower of souls
Jareth sat on his throne, staring into the crystal. The image it held was the most precious thing he had ever laid eyes on.
"Sarah…" he murmured to no one. He sighed and threw the crystal into the air, absently watching it disappear. He silently made his way to his chambers, ignoring the goblins and their mindless games.
If it takes another thousand years, a thousand wars
The towers rise to numberless floors in space
I could shed another million tears, a million breaths
A million names but only one truth to face
Sarah looked into her mirror, sighing as she prepared herself for bed. It had been three years since the Labyrinth, and even though she still kept in touch with all of her friends, a void had been in her, calling out for something that she thought she could never have.
"Jareth…"
A million roads, a million fears
A million suns, ten million years of uncertainly
I could speak a million lies, a million songs
A million rights, a million wrongs in this balance of time
Jareth lay down on his bed, his hands behind his head, studying the canopy. A glint caught his eyes, and he turned his head to focus on the large vanity mirror. On a whim, he waved his hand toward it, and a portal opened up in-between his and Sarah's mirrors. It was one way, so he made no move to get out of sight. She was sitting in front of her mirror, brushing her long, dark hair. She was gazing into space, her mind far away. He walked up to the gateway-of- sorts, and looked into the eyes of his beloved.
But if there was a single truth, a single light
A single thought a singular touch of grace
Then flowing this single point, this single flame
This single haunted memory of your face.
Sarah brushed her hair, releasing herself to the memories of friends, adventures, and a man that she would soon see in her dreams. Every night, in either owl or person, she at least caught a glance of him…the one she loved.
I still love you
I still want you
A thousand times the mysteries unfold themselves
Like galaxies in my head
I've kept this single faith; I have but one belief
Jareth leaned his forehead against the hard surface, the pain of being rejected by the one that he loved flowing into every space in his soul. He remembered that fateful day those life-altering words had flown from her mouth, shattering his heart like one of his delicate crystals dropped onto a stone floor. But still he waited, waited for the day that might come… that day she might call for him. He sighed and walked off to retire, not catching the whispered truth from Sarah
I still love you
I still want you
A thousand times these mysteries unfold themselves
Like galaxies in my head
On and on the mysteries unwind themselves
Eternities still untold
"I love you, Jareth."
'Til you love me
End
