A completely random drabble I wrote ages ago, based on a gifset from Tumblr. It's been done before, I'm sure. Perhaps I will continue it someday. In the meantime, posting it here for posterity. And this is because it is my firm belief that The Dark Knight is the best film that has ever been made. But I don't own it. Just so we're clear.

What did it take to make a psychopath?
The hardest thing about assuming another identity is determining the which. Life had been singular, whole, before the suit came in. It's easy to think that two lives would mean an overabundance; it's not. It's more like always living half, in halves, thinking in half, always, the choosing of one over another can be confusing. It can be so damned confusing.
But hey. Practice makes perfect.
So that's what John tell himself when he's walking the halls of Arkham. The deeper into the abyss he walks, the stronger the security measures, the stranger the prisoners. And the purpose for his visit is locked up in the very center.
Unaffected by the calamities of fairly recent, the Joker had been the only one in Gotham who was unaware of Gotham's most recent near-destruction experience. Owing to the fact that his own imprisonment was known by only a handful of people, he had been sitting blissfully in his cell for two years now, newsless of the outside world. John wonders how it had affected him. The thoughts turn to traumatizing and he stops wondering.
He's still trying to figure out which of the two halves he should choose when all too fast he is face to face with Gotham's top-priority villain. His own brother.

We're all just freaks, all of us. The problem with the world is, as you may very well guess, the problem of denial. Everything is a tipping point, everything pointless. What you do with your measly. little. lives, do you think that has consequence? When you order your coffee in the morning, would the world stop spinning if it was poisoned?
The grand illusion of significance is really amusing. And they say *I'm* mad. You people think you know so much, think you're all so valuable. Let me tell you my story, and show you just how valuable a life really is in this world.
