Emmy arrived early at the office that morning. Why? Simple; she couldn't sleep. The Professor would not approve of this; he always says that sleep is important for the health. Ironically, he hardly got any himself; he always worked too hard. That's why Emmy decided to show up early for work instead of going back to sleep. She wanted to have at least some work done before the Professor showed up, so that he wouldn't have to worry about that.
Today didn't promise to be a remarkable day; the weather was dreary as always and there wouldn't be anything overly exciting before the Professor would get one of those request letters. It's not that it wasn't exciting to be Professor Layton's Assistant nr. 1, but she really wanted to go out and solve mysteries about towns with all sorts of secrets together with the Professor.

Standing in front of the office door, she thumbled with her keys only to find out seconds later that it was, in fact, not locked at all. She shrugged it off and went inside to find the floor a complete mess of papers. She chuckled to herself; the Professor really didn't know how to keep anything in order.

She kneeled down to pick it all up, when she became aware of what sounded to be a slow and steady breathing. She looked around the office and decided that it came from direction of the couch and headed over there.

Looking down the front of the couch she saw the source of the breathing sounds; Professor Layton was laying there on his side fast asleep. His tophat was, as always, placed firmly on his head, though diagonally as if to make sure that it didn“t fall of; his hand gripping the brim only confirmed this. No limp was leaning over the side; no hair (of what was visible) was out of place; there wasn't even a single wrinkle in his clothes.

'It would seem that even in his sleep the Professor maintain the importance of looking proper.'

She looked over at his desk, examining the large mess of papers and books from a distance and then back at the Professor. A mischievous smile soon formed on her lips. It would be a shame to wake him then and there, but that didn't mean she couldn't have some fun.

She moved steadily and quietly towards the desk and looked through the Professor's drawers until she found a black marker. 'Perfect!' she thought and made her way back to the sleeping man on the couch.

After having given the man a monocle, a moustache and miscellaneous spirals and stars all over his face she deemed herself finished. But not before taking a picture of it!
She took out her camera and snapped photos of every possible angle.

Afterwards she went out to make some tea to the Professor for when he woke up. She smiled to herself.

Today would turn out to be a remarkable day after all.
