Nikki Alexander jumped as her phone rang out in her quiet house. She placed her mug of coffee on the table and picked up the phone, grinning when she saw the caller I.D.
"Hello handsome"
"Hello beautiful" came the reply and she relaxed into her chair "How are you?"
"I'm fine Harry" Nikki assured him "How's the conference"
Harry sighed and she heard him sit down
"Its as boring as listening to Detective 'Dan-the-man' talk about how many women he could pull with his looks alone"
Nikki frowned
"When did he talk about that?"
"When you weren't in the room, he specifically said your name though" Harry replied and Nikki could hear the disgust in his voice
Nikki shuddered and went back to their first conversation
"The conference that bad then?"
"Oh yes" Harry agreed "I have to say, beautiful, that I preferred the last conference I went on, I was with a gorgeous blonde woman who I adore so much and we hardly saw any lectures but lots of our hotel room"
Nikki giggled then sobered up
"I'm missing you" she told Harry quietly and Harry sighed
"I'm missing you too" he told her
"Its been boring, Leo wont let me do anything without having a stress out"
At the end of the sentence Nikki yawned
"Sorry Harry" she apologised "Haven't been getting much sleep"
"Our little one keeping you awake?" Harry asked and Nikki heard pride in his voice when he said 'our little one'. Her hand dropped to her five month pregnant stomach and gently rubbed it.
"The baby's being very lively, I think the little one knows it's daddy isn't here"
Harry chuckled
"I'm coming home tomorrow don't worry my dear"
The baby suddenly kicked her in the ribs and she gasped
"Nikki, you okay?" came Harry's concerned voice down the phone
"I'm fine" Nikki reassured him "the baby was just making it's presence felt"
"It's late" Harry told her "You should go to bed"
Nikki automatically yawned then nodded even though Harry couldn't see
"Okay. What time are you due home?"
"About one in the afternoon" Harry replied
"I'll be home. Leo started my maternity leave today after I tried to perform an autopsy without him knowing, I'm surprised he didn't have a heart attack" she giggled
"Nikki" Harry gasped and she chuckled
"I love you Harry" she whispered
"I love you" he replied "I'll see you tomorrow"
"Night Nikki"
"Goodnight Harry"
