After a good many weeks of plotting in the /r/RWBY subreddit's Fan Fiction Friday threads, I'm finally kicking off my Future!RWBY universe. Basically it's set two years into the future from "today". While Team RWBY will feature in the background, the new stars are the freshmen in Team FYSX ("Physics"). The story you're about to read however, is set in RWBY's sophomore year…
It was a peaceful, radiant morning in the Emerald Forest.
But the peace was short-lived as a shrill squeal of an agitated Boarbatusk pierced the air, scaring a flock of birds out of the lush trees. As the young creature ran for its life, a lithe being jumped from treetop to treetop at an inconceivable speed, nearly too fast for the eye to perceive.
The black-red blur made a quick, slashing motion, and suddenly two trees fell in the way of its prey. The Boarbatusk, however, deftly leaped up and over the obstacle, using the lower tree as a stepping stone to get over the topmost log.
"Damn it! Almost had him! Yang, cut him off from the left!"
As the creature continued to evade its assailer, there was an almost inhuman yell as the tree directly to the left of the Boarbatusk exploded in a hailstorm of bark and splinters when a tall, muscular woman tackled straight through it, arms first. She managed to get in front of her prey and swiftly grabbed the small, but still impressive tusks and started to force the creature to its knees. Her prey, however, had other plans. It caved in to the downwards pressure, but instead of just laying down and facing its inevitable demise, it followed through with the downwards rotation to start up a spinning movement.
"Dammit Penny, it's not doing what I think it is, is it?"
A voice came from her right arm. "It would appear so, friend Yang. By the way, I must say that I am grateful for you leading with your left arm when assailing that tree earlier, as I am not yet certain my housing in your arm could withstand that impa-"
"Yeah yeah, good for yo-holy crap!" suddenly the Boarbatusk had wriggled loose from her grip and spun on down the forest path, looking less like a boar and more like a runaway circle saw.
"Blake, get the trap ready!" Yang shouted after it. The Boarbatusk had been running for a good hundred meters before a black ribbon suddenly sprung up and blocked its path. However, the beast was moving far too fast to stop and tripped over it, only to get back on its feet milliseconds later and continue its mad dash, leaving a disappointed Blake Belladonna to give chase as well.
After running an additional sixty or seventy meters, the Boarbatusk emerged into a clearing and laid down to rest. It had sure been an interesting morning. The creature's rest was short-lived however, as suddenly a large, pitch black glyph sprung up from underneath it, and it felt like the weight of the entire world was on its shoulders. High above her prey standing on a glyph of her own, Weiss Schnee levelled her dust rapier and fired of a single shot of ice at her target, freezing it in a large block of ice. As she floated down to the ground, the rest of Team RWBY had arrived at the scene.
"Honestly, you guys… You're sophomores at Beacon Academy, catching and killing a lone, juvenile Boarbatusk shouldn't have taken this much time. And you…" she turned to her team leader pointedly. "You should be more careful when pursuing your target. My sentry golems saw you nearly trip and fall twice! Not once, but twice!"
Ruby smiled. "Aww Weiss, you do love me!"
Weiss went beet red.
"… Dolt." Was her only response.

I actually had inspirational music while writing it, Dha Werda Verdafrom Star Wars.
And yes, Penny is in Yang's new arm.
