Hair Colours
It was a habit for Sophie to see Howl with different hair colours. Sometimes, he was blond, then red, and its became black when she asked him. Of course, for that, she had to use all the sweet words she knew, because Mister Howl wasn't modest at all. The night, when he was sleeping – or made believe he was – she stroked his hair. It was always soft and she loved buring her face in it and smelling its flagrance. It always remember something that she smelt a long time ago. She never remembered what but she loved it.
But today, it was strange. It was usual to see Howl leaving the bathroom with blond or red or black hair, but not with this colour. Sophie opened her mouth, ready to tell something, but she was so much surprised that she wasn't able to talk.
"So, what do you think?" Howl asked with a big smile.
"Well, it's...It's green..."
And totally hideous. What happened inside the little mind of his? Why? Did she miss an episode or something?
"Yeah, glad to ear that you know your colour. How do I look?"
Like a tree..., she thought, but she couldn't tell him that, right? He wouldn't appreciate it. But she couldn't lie too. She didn't want to lie!
"It's...Listen, I prefer when you're blond or red."
Howl looked upset and she felt bad for telling him that. But it was the only good way to tell him that this colours didnd't look well on him. And she said the truth, after all: she would prefer seeing him blond or red rather than green.
"I see...Well...See you later!"
"What?"
She didn't understand what happened, and even when she heard the door of the bathroom being closed, she wondered what just happened.
Sophie didn't see Howl since he had locked himself in the bathroom. She was really worried, but when she had asked him if everything was fine, he had told her to not worry and going in bed without him.
Now, she was in bed, lying, looking at the door, bitting her lips. Did she upset him? She hoped no, but she could never know with the man; sometimes he was in a good mood, other times he wasn't.
Then, the door opened and he entered. Glad, Sophie was going to welcome him until she saw it. She was glad that he put off the green but why blue!? His hair was as blue as the sky. Well, it was a beautiful colour but...What was his problem?
"Howl...?"
"I tried to put off the green, but I made a mistake with my potions and it became as blue as the sky. It's beautiful, isn't it?"
Poor excuse, she thought, but she only nodded. She didn't need him in the bathroom all the night to choose another strange colour for his poor hair. Smiling, the blue haired man came in bed with her and, after a long silence, Sophie began to stroke his hair. It was as soft as always and she couldn't help but smile. She burried her face in it and smelt its flagrance. All the same.
"I love when you stroke my hair, Sophie." Howl said suddenly.
"Really?"
"Yes. It calms me down."
She smiled and continued her stroke. Blond, red, black, green or blue, no matter the colours, Howl was still Howl. She loved him like that and she knew that she couldn't and wouldn't change him.
"Hey, Sophie...What if I try pink?"
She stopped her stroke and, after a moment of silence, she only answered:
"No, Howl. Definitively no."
