Worth It All
Prompt: On the right side...
A/N: Written for LJ.
They had made a mistake. Their reparation had been to suffer, grieve, and hope for the best. Foolishness had taken over them, causing them to act upon impulse. There had been no one to blame but themselves. It would have been cruel to blame their dearly departed mother for her untimely death. That alone would have been a sin far greater than anything they had, or could have, done. Grave as their punishment had been, it had been their mistake alone. And, as such, it was up to them to correct it.
Years had been spent traveling, searching, clinging to every last lead and shred of hope. And, more often than not, they had been shoved into a corner, forced to mend their broken hearts. Tears had been shed, families had been destroyed, and friends had been lost. And each of those moments, painful as they were, had been just another push, another piece of tinder to feed the fire that was their drive.
At first, they had sincerely believed their journey to be for themselves; for each other. But, as the time passed, the circle had spread, encompassing far more than just their own desires. People, friends and family, had suffered alongside them, bleeding, suffering, dying; doing everything they could to aid the brothers' seemingly endless search. It had become a quest, a distant dream, for all of them. A desire that they all wanted to see fulfilled.
Now, standing in the face of the devil himself, they were strong, having waded through a sea of blood to get this far; to stop Hell from breaking loose and taking even more lives. Even were they to perish, even if their bodies and souls were to be dismantled and turned to dust, they would sacrifice anything to protect those who had protected them for so long. Their hearts beamed, a light burning in the darkness. Even if the end were to come, their lives would have been more than worth it.
Not sure how this came about. Just an idea.
