Strings. All around you are strings. Connecting, bringing together or tearing apart, these strings have always been apart or your life. Only you can see them, which has become quite a problem for you.

For as long as you can remember, you have seen these strings. You've learned from a young age what they mean and have grown accustomed to their everyday appearance. To a normal person, you would look as if you were staring off into space, although you are secretly analyzing every relation- past, present and future. The strings, as you have also learned, come in two different colors.

Red, which you frequently see, connects two people who have been, will be, or are in a romantic sort of relation, though it can manifest itself out of love or lust. The second color is black and you very rarely see it. Though when you do you can't help but feel sorry for the person it's tied to.

A black string does not connect two people, but rather appears as a small, thin string tied around a person's wrist. When it appears, it means death is close to that person.

Thankfully, you have not seen any black stings in a long time. Only red ones fill your vision as you walk. Though as you get closer to your destination, you notice the red strings are starting to look more frayed and doubled than stable, like they should be. Seeing strings like this remind you of the event involving your friends Rufioh, Damara and Horuss. When you had first met Rufioh, he was connected to Damara, but when he met Horuss, a second string appeared.

Not wanting to be the bearer of bad news, you left it alone and hoped it would work itself out, though it didn't. Damara and Rufioh's string became thinner and so frayed that it looked to be connected by only a few strands. Eventually, it just disappeared, looking as if it was never there to start with, although the string between Rufioh and Horuss was strong and stable between them.

You shake your head and focus ahead of you. Porrim, as usual, is waiting for you. She is the only person who knows about your "talent" as she calls it. She frequently asks you to check her string and see if it's stable between her and whoever she's with at the time. You just begin to tell her that her string looks stable when you hear a familiar accented voice behind you. Turning, you look and see Cronus Ampora.

Now, this is where your problem starts. Cronus, as he brags oftenly, is in a relationship with Meenah. You have always seen the red string connecting them, slightly frayed but otherwise strong. This is not the problem though.

No, the problem is that there is a second red string attached to Cronus, and that string-the string that connects people, that brings them together, that only you can see- is tied to you as well.

Your name is Kankri Vantas and your story is one of love, loss, deception and hope.
