Crossover with Child Thief
Santana was still as the trees around her as she watched the tiny settlement. She scowled, spotting the priest bestowing whatever bullshit blessings they thought kept them safe at night. A hand rested on her shoulder.
"Focus," Redbone said. "He'll pay. But not tonight. Not if…."
She nodded, not needing him to continue. She could see the heads of some of the clan on spikes already. They had to get the others back tonight, or they'd be watching them burn tomorrow.
Quietly, as the torches and candles of the village flickered out, she and Redbone made their way around the outskirts to the makeshift jail. They hid along the rocks, and she could see the mast of their ship in the distance. The ship that brought these bastards to Avalon.
The place was swarming with guards.
"Fox tails," Redbone murmured.
The sap of some of the trees made for very bouncy balls. Before these devils came, when they'd still had time for fun, they used to play games with them. Now, they attached the tails of Barghest to them and used them as distractions. She chucked a few into the rocks a few yards down from them.
"Barghest!" the call went up.
While the guards were standing their ground in defensive formation, Redbone and Santana crept to the side of the building. They slipped in through the grate and crawled along the filthy sanitation tunnels to the cells. They heard quiet whispers, and the snoring of whatever guard had been left inside.
Santana gave a small sound, and the talking stopped. She did it again, and a face appeared in the grate above her.
Rachel.
"Told you I would find you," she whispered, pushing the grate up and leading the way back.
