* * *

"Do you exist?"

"What?"

"Do you exist?"

"Why are you asking such a dumb question?"

"It's because of my flower, you see."

"Your flower?"

The dark haired young man stared down at the little blond boy. He had tears in his eyes. A scarf around his neck and the desert was behind him. Connor looked around for something, anything. But there was nothing. It was probably magic that had done this.

"Yes, she's fragile. . . and I'm afraid she'll die without me."

"Fragile things tend to up and do that on you." Connor scoffed, his mind going back to Cordy. "One day you'll look at her, and she just won't get up."

"The weeds! They could choke her out! However will I get back to fight off those evil weeds?" He tugged on Connor's hand, until the older boy shook him loose.

"Get off!"

"Please, I'm only looking for answers."

"Aren't we all?"

"Oh! I just want to get back to her. She could be cold, or lonely, or dying!" The little boy squatted down in the sand, his hands rubbing at the tears in his eyes.

"How'd you get here?" Connor asked, sitting beside the young boy.

"I traveled the stars, visiting other stars to find out about existence."

"But how did you get there?"

"I'd have to get rid of the shell. My flower's not unique, you know." He said softly.

"Huh?"

"There are thousands of her kind here. She's not special. That means I'm not special, either!"

"Nothing's special here."

"But -"

"You need to get rid of that shell?"

"Yes. You see, my flower lied. She said she was the only one of her kind."

"Females lie."

"Yes, but I need to get back to her. I can't just leave her all alone."

"Close your eyes." Connor said to the little boy. He wrapped his hands around his head.

There was a quick snap, and the thump of the frail little body as it hit the sand before winking out of existence. Connor smiled sadly at the dip in the sand. At least he got to go home. Connor burst out laughing in the sand.

A/N: Ok, reading my French book, and I stumbled across an except of Le Petit Prince (The Little Prince) and it had me wondering, so this story came to mind.
