From the moment she first laid eyes on the red haired girl, Sayaka knew she hated her. It was everything about her, the cocky grin, the narrow eyes blazing a fiery crimson, the way she swaggered about as if this city belonged to her. Her rage grew further as the girl continued to monologue, describing humans as mere cannon fodder, food to strengthen up the familiars. This was not what a magical girl was supposed to be, selfish and cruel and only in it for the Grief Seeds. They were supposed to be fighters for justice, heroes, saviors, like Mami- but it hurt to think of Mami because she was dead, Sayaka had watched- and her fury escalated because it was because of people like this red eyed magical girl that Mami was gone.

She screamed accusations at her, not even truly conscious of what she was doing, ignoring Madoka's cries telling them to stop. The girl's eyes flashed, and Sayaka had clearly struck a nerve because she lunged forward, spear in hand, and she knew by the deadly look on the girl's face that only one of them was going to make it out alive. Sayaka threw up her sword to counter the blow, exhilaration coursing through her. She couldn't wait to shave off some of this girl's ego. However, nothing could have prepared her for the sheer force of the girl's attack. It took everything Sayaka had to keep from being blasted backwards against the cement walls. Uncertainty began to grow in her as she slashed and swung her sword with all her strength, the other girl mocking her as the vicious attacks had no effect. I have to defeat her, she thought furiously, I have to. I need to avenge Mami. As the battle continued, the red haired girl gained the advantage quickly, beating Sayaka to the ground, continuing to taunt her all the while. Struggling to continue, aching despite the powers of healing that were saving her life, she glanced up just in time to see a spear hurtling towards her face, the girl going in for the kill. Distantly, she heard Madoka frantically yelling as her ice blue eyes met brilliant scarlet. As she looked into those eyes, despair came over her. She was going to die, and this girl, this selfish being, would walk free. Where was the fairness in that? Mami was dead, and this girl was alive. Sayaka would soon be dead, and this girl would be alive.

Chilled, Sayaka wondered if being self-centered was the only way to be saved.
