A/N: Ok. This is my first Beetlejuice fan fiction so be gentle. I'm new.

I stumbled across the movie and rewatched it and then did the same with some of the episodes of the cartoons. I saw Beej/Lydia in both of them. A bit more in the cartoon though. So this is the result of thinking about it way to much.

Disclaimer: Beetlejuice and Lydia belong Tim Burton and whatever channel showed the cartoon. I am making no profit off of this fic.

He was good at pretending.

Despite his constant pun and obvious gags that everyone knew he did, even during the times when he pretended to be innocent, he really was better at pretending then most people realized.

With Lyds pretending had become almost an art form.

He couldn't pin point exactly when it started but it was all he ever did anymore.

He pretended he didn't know that Lyds was getting old. She wasn't a kid anymore, she was almost 17 now.

She was almost a woman, but she hadn't changed much so it was easy for him to act like he didn't notice.

He pretended not to notice that their hugs lingered for bit every time they hugged.

She had always been affectionate with him, it was just friendly affection.

It didn't mean anything if he wanted to hug her a bit longer then a few seconds and maybe she did too.

He pretended that he didn't think that much of that day when there was a car accident and her father was in the hospital for two day.

Two days where she had summoned him during the night and he'd spent most of those two night holding her while she cried. He had tried to blow it off as just being mushy for his friend but he was glad she trusted him enough to cling to him like that.

He had awkwardly tried to comfort his friend and she had been grateful for it.

He pretended he hadn't felt anything out of the ordinary when she asked him to hold her while she slept.

But most of all he pretended that it hadn't crossed his mind that he would loose her someday.

He knew that day would come soon, she'd meet a guy and get married or maybe even just fade away when she went off to college.

He would never see her again after that.

But for now, he could pretend.
