"I am so excited to see your father again. It has been, oh, i don't even know how long," Ziva exclaims as she walks into the squad room holding hands with Tony.
"Yeah, one tiny detail I may have left out."
"What's that?"
"He knows I have a girlfriend, but he doesn't know it's you. I wanted him to be surprised by showing him my beautiful girlfriend as a birthday surprise for him."
Ziva squints her eyes for a moment, then smiles. "I think that's a good idea. I wonder what he will say when I get there. You know what, for added effect, I think I should drive myself there. Just to see what he thinks."
"Are you sure? I was going to pick you up, but if you would prefer that, I'm all good with it."
At the end of the day, the two kiss and go to their separate apartments to get ready for the dinner.
When Tony arrives at the restaurant, his dad is already waiting at a table. Tony walks over to it and Senior stands up. "Son!"
"Happy birthday, Dad. It was nice of you to drop by on your birthday. I like this much better than just sending you a birthday gift."
"Thank you, son. I'm just excited to see your new girlfriend. I bet she's a beauty."
Tony mumbles, "That's something you've said about her."
"What was that?"
"Nothing. Of course, she is beautiful, Dad. In fact, here she is right now."
Senior looks up and sees Ziva. "Look, Junior, there's Ziva. She must be waiting for her date."
"Actually, Dad…" Tony goes and gets Ziva and puts his arm around her. "…she's my date."
Senior's eyes look like the size of saucers. "What?!" he exclaims. Then, he smiles and laughs. "Are you being serious right now, Junior?"
"Yes, Dad, we are very serious, and we thought it would be nice to bring you into the loop now. We're a couple."
"Congratulations. I knew this was going to happen one day."
Tony looks puzzled. "What?"
"Oh, you know just the way you guys act around each other and how you are such great friends and everthing."
"Oh." Tony looks at Ziva and smiles. She boldly smiles back.
Senior walks over to Ziva and kisses her dainty hand. "You look beautiful, daughter-in-law."
Tony rolls his eyes. "Dad, we're not that far along yet."
"Well, hop to it, son," Senior says. There is a pause. "I'm just teasing you two! Shall we dine?"
They sit down and enjoy a nice meal full of discussion and Tony's embarrassing childhood stories. In the end, Senior picked up the bill in "celebration" of the couple. "My birthday, my rules," he said after Tony insisted to pick it up.
Outside, they gave their last hugs.
"Happy birthday, Dad."
"Congrats, son. I hope this one goes all the way. She's a good one to hang on to." They hug, then Senior moves to Ziva.
"You watch him for me. If he treats you wrong, call me right away. I will answer wherever I am. OK? Congratulations."
"Thank you. Happy birthday. I wish you the best today and for many years to come."
"I should do this more often. I think I like it quite a lot." He hugs Ziva, then waves goodbye to the pair who are walking down the street, hands clasped together.
"I am glad that we got to see your father again," Ziva says. "I think he is very happy we are together."
"You think? He would not stop talking about it."
"Well, I know that I am very happy we are together." She smiles.
He smiles back and says, "Me too." He gives her a kiss as they happily walk toward Tony's car.
