He strained to read the lips of the man in front of him.

She watched.

He forced his face to conceal the panic and frustration.

She knew.

He feared how he would explain why he didn't know what was said.

She moved.

He released it only when he thought he was on his own.

She saw.

Her hands retold the witness's tale.

He smiled.

Her face insisted it would be all right.

He knew

She would be there, a voice in the silence,

Forever.
