Seriously? You wrote about this? For school?
What else was there to write about?
I don't know. Anything else in the world!
Are you embarrassed? Ooh, look! You're blushing…
Just shut up and let's read the stupid story.
Levy's nose was buried in the book. Her head was tilted forward so her short blue hair fell across her face. She looked soft and innocent when she read.
I sat down across from her at the bayside cafe and tugged lightly on the short hair that drifted down to brush her shoulders. Levy was petite and beautiful in a pixieish way, with large eyes and slight features.
"What?" she snapped. "I'm reading."
I smiled at her reaction. Levy couldn't stand any interruptions while she was reading. Of course, because of that, I took every chance I could to try and bother her.
A boat pulled across the bay beside us.
I pushed my chair around the table, sitting beside her now. I kissed her temple. She let out a cute puff of air from her mouth. I kissed her again. She frowned.
"Gajeel, go away this instant!" She turned the page and played with the upper corner of the one she had just turned to, bending it forwards and backwards, her eyes flitting across the page.
"Do I have to do this?" I sighed, and pulled the thick hardcover out of her hands. I bookmarked the page with a napkin off her table and placed it across from her holding her around the waist so she couldn't reach it. "Sometimes I feel like I'm competing with books in our relationship."
"You are," she said, her eyes sparkling as the light that danced on the waves was reflected in her eyes. "And a book wouldn't tease me, so I'd have to say, you're losing."
"Aw… Now I'm hurt."
"A little bruised ego won't kill you," she said, but she reached up to kiss me on the cheek.
How poetic. "The light that danced on the waves was reflected in her eyes?"
It's true. That day your eyes were blue. I'm still really not sure what color they are.
It says hazel on my driver's license.
They're only hazel, like, two percent of the time. They're purple more often than they are hazel.
My eyes are purple!?
Sometimes…
"Can we go and do something?"
"What?" she said, leaning her head against my shoulder and lacing her fingers together. Her hand fit perfectly in mine.
"Umm… we could… never mind," I said, pulling her into my lap.
"Mmm…" she said, tilting her head up to kiss my jawline. I tightened my arms around her waist and pressed my cheek to hers.
Another boat pulled into the harbor, only a few feet away from the pier. "I'm fine right here."
So did you tell your teacher?
Tell her what?
That it was true?
I never did… but then again, I never didn't.
Why? Because you'd be exposed as the only guy in high school who actually cared about his girlfriend?
Maybe. I only changed the names to ours once I got it back. I think their names were Elizabeth and Max… or something.
Oh. I remember that day, actually.
Really?
Yeah. Only because it was the first Harry Potter book. The bookmark fell out too, by the way.
Sorry.
Oh. So you're feeling bad now. Fourteen years later.
It was that long ago?
Yes, Gajeel, you're thirty now.
God, I'm old.
Shut up.
A kiss might shut me up. Yeah, a kiss would shut me up real good.
Really well. Grammar.
Sorry.
I want some cheesecake.
Your pregnant-ness is driving me insane.
My "pregnant-ness" is your fault, by the way.
What was I thinking?
Stop being so sarcastic. Only I'm allowed to be sarcastic.
Sorry.
You've been apologizing a lot.
Sorry.
I love you, you know. Nothing can ever change that.
I love you, too.
...
Will you kiss me now?
Fine.
