Was it so wrong for her to see him smile? All she wanted in life was for her beloved to smile again, to see him laugh and giggle alongside her like they would when they were children.

But, as she sat in front of the fire in her bedroom, Elizabeth felt her heart drop into her stomach. They weren't kids anymore, at least he, her beloved Ciel, wasn't. He'd come back after the fire with a bandage around his eye, a dark as night butler and a scowl that seemed to be burnt into his face. He'd come back without the innocence and happiness she adored as a child

The flames crackled at the base of her feet, her pale eyes unseeing as she began to think.

Sebastian.

Ciel.

What was Sebastian to Ciel? Did he mean more to him than she did? And better yet, who was Ciel? She'd thought she'd understood him, and perhaps at one time in her life, before that blasted fire, she did, but not anymore. She didn't know anything anymore. What kind of future wife was she? She didn't even understand the boy she claimed to love with all her heart.

She was too young to feel like this, far too young. She was too young to have to worry about the prospects of being married and to worry about understanding a twelve year old boy. Just as Ciel was too young to have to worry about vengeance and watching over London for the Queen. Oh, he never told her, but Elizabeth was bubbly and childish, not stupid.

Their youth had been replaced with a grim tension and as much as Elizabeth wanted to change that, she knew she could not. But even with this, she wanted to help, to try and have him escape the pit of darkness to have him-

Jing,jing,le,le,jingle,jingle.

Her dress had shifted and with that had come a small bell like noise and as she undid the folds of her gown she saw Paula's bells sitting in her lap, the gold standing out nicely from the pink. Elizabeth frowned slightly, wondering how the bells managed to end up in her lap as she picked the handles of them up.

Jang-jang-le-le. Jangle-jangle.

As they chimed, she couldn't help but give a little smile as she recalled the excitable woman's face in the middle of ringing the bells. Giggles began to come from Lizzie, yes Lizzie, the ringing growing louder and more excitable as she thought of the childish happiness Paula had tried to give her that same day. The same happiness she was trying to give to Ciel, the happiness she would always want to give to Ciel. All thoughts of being inferior and of marriage and adulthood slipped from the forefront of her mind to be pushed away for another day. She wasn't going to worry about that now, she was going to enjoy the bits of childhood she could get and she would do the same for Ciel. She would continue to try and make him smile, if for no other reason than to make him forget it all for just a moment. Elizabeth would make him a smiling child as many times as she could because she loved him and she wanted to see his smile again.
