Natsu could hear the butterflies in his stomach flutter, he could feel his blood pump, he could hear the whispers that his heart said to him.
But he ignores them.
Why? He had to. She depended on him. And he had to protect her, he couldn't get distracted by the way she said his name, the way she smiled and laughed when he'd fight with ice princess or made a joke, the comfort of her bed when he snuck in at night to cuddle with her. He couldn't get distracted by those blissful things. It wouldn't be fair to her. So he pushed those feelings down where no one would notice and he played the role of a dense idiot to protect her, to cherish her. He played the role so well he began to believe that he wasn't in love, he was just confused by the obvious signs of love. He also played the role as the best friend, the best friend who you could lean on, the one you can complain about dates with, the one who could listen to you, the one who could secretly love you, the one who would never leave you. And he played that one well too, because that one was effortless, he was that to her and her to him. But one thing that actor who played the dense idiot and that amazing best friend was not aware of was that, that girl he loved the girl he would never leave was also playing a role, she played the strong and independent princess waiting for her protecter to love her as much as she loved him. But that dragon would never know, until he excepted it himself, that he loved that princess, that girl, that amazing person whom he loved. And that he was more then just a protected, more then just a friend, to her. He was the man, the beast, the dragon she dreamed would carry her away from her castle, her tower, her obstacles and take her to her Fairy *Tail. To their Fairy Tail.
