Lucario sighed as she started to wash herself in the cool, clear stream. The quiet was so relaxing, mixed with the feeling of days of road grunge coming off. She and her trainer were on the road to their next tournament in Crescent City.

Thinking about her trainer, she lazily reached out to find his aura. He was safely cooking back at their camp. She smiled and floated under the water for a few seconds.

His name was Matthew. He was the only decent human that she had ever met. Everyone else trained their pokemon into the ground and abused them until they feared making the smallest mistake.
Matthew was good to her. If she messed up, he would gently correct her, usually with an encouraging smile. He had evolved her from a newborn Riolu.

His silver-framed glasses would slip down his nose when he concentrated, and she always wanted to nudge them back into place. His aura was soft but bright, and a mellow shade of green. She loved the way one hair would defy gravity and his will to stand up from his wavy hair. She loved how his violet eyes showed blue specks in the morning. She loved how he could eat pancakes anytime.

She loved... Him.

This thought shocked her. A pokemon couldn't love its trainer... Even if it could, the human would never love it back... Could they...?

She shook her head and hurried through her washing, banishing the thoughts until she walked back to the camp.

Matthew had barbecued skewers loaded with her favorite vegetables, and had boiled rice to eat them with. He smiled when he caught sight of her.

"Hey 'Cario. Feel better?" His voice was always soft, and many times he got swallowed by large crowds.

She sat next to him and nodded, taking the bowl of food from him. They shared a comfortable silence while they ate, both seemingly lost in thought.

He finished first, and leaned back against a tree to relax. When she finished, he reached to take her bowl to go clean them, but the shook her head and did the task herself. When she came back, Matthew's small tent was set up, and the fire had burned down to embers.

"Your fur is still wet," he commented. "If you sleep outside, you could get sick, and the leaves you usually sleep in are pretty sparse here. You can sleep in my tent tonight. I-if you want, you don't have to, of course!"

Lucario smiled. She loved it when he got flustered and started to stutter. She thought to him, "Yes, thank you very much."

"No problem. It is my duty to take care of you. B-but it's not like you couldn't take care of yourself!" He blushed and pushed his fingers together, "I mean, I'm sure you could, but I want to keep you safe. You're my best friend..."

She smiled, and couldn't help but hug him. Relieved, he hugged her back securely. "You're my best friend too, Mattie..." She kissed his cheek without thinking. A small shiver darted up his spine as her cool nose brushed his temple, and his glasses nearly slipped off his face.

She caught them, and used the pad of her finger to nudge them back up, as she had always had the urge to do.

"This may sound a little weird, and awkward..." She started. His blush grew with every word. "But I really do love you." If she didn't say it, he never would. He was too shy.

"Lucario... I... I l-love you too..." He stuttered back, face as red as a pikachu's cheeks.

She smiled and cuddled into his arms. "Let's go to bed..."

Tried this for my friend, AngeltheNoodle .
