Naruto was everything Sasuke wasn't.
Naruto was light, he was the sunshine, he was happiness; a breath of air to drowning lungs. A bundle of innocence, honesty and love wrapped up in bronze skin, golden hair and sapphire eyes.
He had hope and he igave/i people hope.
Naruto was a blinding flame and everyone he met became a moth.
Sasuke was more like the midnight sky during a storm, his endless black eyes swimming with hate and fear and lonliness.
He was a broken statue caved from marble and filled with ice, his heart hardened by trauma after trauma. His hope not even a tiny speck of light on the horizon, he seeped into peoples happiness poisoning it until it's unrecognizable, like an inescapable poison. At least thats how he saw it, Naruto didn't agree.
Sasuke had once told Naruto that they were complete opposites, Naruto was the Day, Sasuke like Night. Naruto had chuckled and softly carressed the ivory skin of Sasuke's cheek.
"That sounds about right," he paused smiling softly, "I'm loud and obnoxious and you, you're beautiful and mysterious; you make me feel peaceful like the starry sky."
Sasuke had just smiled a little sadly, Naruto didn't see things cleary he was searching for the light he'd seen in Sasuke's eyes but didn't realise it was his own light reflecting off of the ice in Sasuke's chest, like how the moon steals the suns glow.
Sasuke was being selfish keeping the stunning blonde to himself. Yet how could he ever let go of the one good thing in his life, his life line.
So instead of telling Naruto that he was no good for him, instead of warning the blonde that he would pull him into the darkness too, he pushed down the guilt at making him stay and clung to the light in his constant darkness by whispering, "I love you."
Naruto smiled at Sasuke's confession- he knew of course. He'd always known. Sasuke wasn't as closed of a book as he thought himself to be. Naruto could see all the dark thoughts in the ravens mind, could sense the internal battle he fought everytime onyx eyes met blue. Naruto knew Sasuke thought he should let him go as to not destroy the blonde's happiness. If only Sasuke could understand that they were saving eachother in equal measure, they were both brokenly clinging to eachother and it was Sasuke's imperfections that made him so utterly perfect to Naruto.
"I love you too."
After all the day needs the night to be complete.
