Just a little tag to the last scene between John and Sherlock in "The Empty Hearse". My interpretation of what was going on between the lines.
Short version: Not mine.
I heard you.
(John's point of view)
To my own surprise, I have actually forgiven you for letting me grieve your death for two long years. It took a ruse from your part, a seemingly live threatening situation for me to realize it myself, but I have actually forgiven you. Yet I can see that you're not sure of my forgiveness yet. That after the trick you pulled on me on that underground car, you still have doubts, are still afraid that I could still hold a grudge against you. I somehow have to assure you that I'm not angry at you any more. Because it's obvious how much my forgiveness means to you. But you being Sherlock Holmes, just telling you won't be enough. You won't believe me unless you understand why I'm not angry any more. But how do I explain something so irrational to a person as rational as you are? Well, I'll have to give it a try . . .
„Sherlock, you aren't going to tell me how you did it!"
Yes, it's a request, not a question. You stop in your way to the door, obviously taken aback by what I just said. Trying to understand what I'm talking about.
„How you jumped off that building and survived."
I told you before and now I'm telling you again: I really don't want to know. Never.
„You know my methods, John. I'm known to be indestructible."
No, Sherlock, this is not some superhero joke to lighten the mood. I'm actually serious here.
„No, but seriously. When you were dead, I went to your grave."
„I should hope so."
I can see that you finally realized that I'm serious about this. That I'm trying to tell you something important. But you still seem to be trying to figure out the message. Just let me go on, then.
„I made a little speech. I actually spoke to you. "
„ I know. I was there."
Now you begin to understand what I'm trying to tell you here. Good, let's go on then.
„I asked you for one more miracle. I asked you to stop being dead. "
And you heard me and you made my wish, my miracle come true for me. By not telling me how you did it, your return is always going to be a miracle for me. MY MIRACLE. The one you made come true for me. And how could I be angry at you, how could I hold a grudge against you for giving me a miracle? I couldn't.
„I heard you."
You're trying to conceal it, but I can see that you're touched and relieved. I can see that you heard what I was trying to tell you. And we both know that we're going to be ok again.
