Preface, and a treatise on things to come:

Welcome to "Fuujin: Chronicles of a Jutsu-Smith". I'm Cryoclasm, and I'll be your host for the foreseeable future.

Before we start, I figured that I should get some things out of the way, for fear of misinterpretation.

1. Chapters will come out whenever I can get some sort of inspiration for it. For the sake of a general timeline, I can provide a chapter every 2 weeks or so - every 1 week or less if the creative juices are really flowing. I generally write 2-3 chapters at a time, so my mileage may vary.

2. This is my first fanfic. Ever. I apologize in advance if you find this story uninteresting, but please leave constructive input on your way out the door if it comes to that. Hopefully, I'll get better at all this.

3. In case the description didn't give it away, the main character is Naruto. Go fucking figure. I suppose this is as good a time as any to elaborate, so here are the corollaries to this point:

a) There is absolutely no chance in hell this will be a Godlike!Naruto (despite the name). Any power or skill comes at an equal, if not steeper cost. That isn't to say that Naruto won't find a way to become truly, undeniably powerful, though.

b) A harem is a convoluted pitfall that adds nothing to about 99.9% of the stories that employ such a tactic. It shall find no place in mine.

c) Naruto's attitude and interpersonal reactions will be largely influenced by the circumstances I impose upon him. As a result, Naruto is not OOC, as he has defining base characteristics than I will not change. Rather, he is a 'what if' of canon, where Naruto's psyche is given a far more harsh push at a young age, but is still closely related to canon. How I develop Naruto from there on in... is the entire point of the story.

d) To address the opposite extreme that points a) and c) may indirectly imply, Naruto will not be a pity-party character. When it rains on the boy's life, it'll goddamn pour, but every time he gets up again, I'll do my level best to make him grow as a character.

e) This will not be a slash fic. I have neither the skill or the inclination to explore same-sex relationships in this story.

4. This series will eventually end in a pairing for Naruto. I say eventually because any such development is LARGELY SECONDARY to the main story. Any 'intimacy' (if it can even be called as such) that Naruto experiences will be infrequent and more for the purpose of emotional development rather than romance.

5. Morality is transient at best. Good, evil and the battlefields in between are a concept I plan on exploring in detail throughout this story. Don't expect a character solely made for the audience to love or hate unconditionally. To that end, galvanizing forces like Naruto, Kurama and even Hiruzen or the Civilian Council won't be purely good/evil. Shades of gray, as they call it.

6. Redemption is something I staunchly believe any character can achieve. Whether they do so before they die, however...that'll be for you to find out. As a result, there will never be a do-no-wrong character, or a character that solely exists to be bashed.

7. I am very liberal with swearing. The motivations for certain characters and their choice of language will be explained to the best of my ability through both the context of the story and the author's notes.

8. I am very very liberal with dark humor, violence and gore. Descriptions of 'aftermath' will be juicy and detailed. Jokes will be morbid (morbidly funny, the best kind of funny) whenever appropriate. If this offends your delicate sensibilities, flee now.

9. I am a raging sadist. (If you like whips and chains, call me. We can work something out.) For every high, there is a low, and vice versa. I can be cruel and generous on the same side of a coin. Expect the Spanish Inquisition. Or something.

10. Nothing comes without a price. Nothing.

With that out of the way, I present to you the first chapter of Fuujin. Enjoy.

...Oh yeah, almost forgot:

11. something something copyright, something something dead horse.
