A/N: A short explanation before you continue reading this: this is where I'll be posting the series of drabbles that were requested on my Tumblr page, all of them coming from a sentence- prompter thing. Basically, you send me a sentence, and a pairing and I'll write you a quick little story. Basically all the requests I got were Snowbarry so I figured it'd be smartest to just post them all in one place. If you want to request your own, feel free to shoot me a message on Tumblr (link is in the bio) :]
This Doesn't Have to Be the End
"Guess I always knew this day was coming."
Even though he's smiling, Caitlin can hear the sadness in his voice and it sent a pang through her heart. She knows how much being the Flash means to Barry and thinking that this could be the last time he put that suit back in its case…she doesn't even like thinking about it.
"This doesn't have to be it," and suddenly Caitlin's eyes are glistening with tears. But what can she say; the combination of a decade of teamwork, hormones and the devastated look on Barry's face is enough to send her in hysterics. Considering how roller coaster-esque her emotions have been recently, it's impressive she isn't sobbing on the floor. "It doesn't have to be over for good."
He looks over at her and she knows he's grateful that she's trying to cheer him up, but she also sees the resignation in his eyes.
"It's alright," and his smile is every bit as watery as hers. "It's for the best."
A tear leaks from her eye and she's quick to wipe it away. Barry sees and automatically, because he's Barry, wraps her up in his arms.
"I just don't want you… this to be because of me," she explains, gesturing towards the suit with her hands. Her voice is clogged with tears and oh how she hates it.
"Cait," he soothes, adjusting their embrace so he's behind her, his chin resting on her shoulder. "This was my choice as much as yours. I truly believe this is what is best. For us… and for our little girl."
His hands come down to brush over her swollen stomach and she can feel his smile in her neck.
"Or boy," she shoots back softly.
"Or boy," he agrees. "I need to be there for my family, though, and if that means I can't be the Flash for a while then that's fine by me."
She can feel the atmosphere shift from serious to joking in the span of a few short seconds. "Besides, maybe our kid inherited my powers and then it can be their suit."
