He held onto her as she whimpered. The dark room brightened every few seconds with a flash of lightening, while the rain splattered loudly against the window.

At 2 o'clock that afternoon, the father and daughter had watched the bright sky turn into a dome of darkness as they huddled together for additional heat in the little girl's bedroom. She snuggled into his side, enjoying her father's warmth and he stroked her long brown mass of hair that resembled her mother's.

"I'm scared, daddy," the child whispered.

"But, I'm here Amalia," her father answered, "They're just playing bowling up there; no need to be afraid."

He lifted her into his lap just as thunder rolled, causing her to shriek and wrap her arms around his neck.

"W-where's mommy?" she trembled.

He positioned her elephant patterned comforter on top of her.

"She'll be here soon from Grandpa's house," he silently prayed that his wife was safe.

His arms tightened around his five year old and he kissed her soft, olive-skinned forehead.

They sat there for another five minutes, no one said anything, they only gazed out of the window at the raging storm.

The bedroom door opened and in stepped a shivering woman with a damp face.

"Mommy!" Amalia called and ran into her mother's arms, almost forgetting her fear of the weather.

"Hello, tateleh," her mother whispered into her ear.

"It's so shivery and scary!" she made her teeth chatter for effect.

Her mother shivered as well, "Mmm, it is! Let us get you warmed up now, yes?"

She kissed her child on the nose and lifted her onto her hip. Thunder and lightening brought back the fear to Amalia and she whimpered into her mother's sweet smelling neck. In return, the woman started to hum a foreign lullaby, bringing comfort to her bairn.

Her husband wrapped his arms around his family after they had all cleaned up and gotten into the bed he shared with his wife. The pouring rain had not ceased, even though the thunder and lightening had vanished from the atmosphere. But, for some reason, no one minded it; for a matter of fact it was nice, soothing, even.

Amalia fell asleep quickly and her parents each gave her a goodnight kiss.

"It's funny," the man remarked.

"What is funny?" the woman asked.

"I used to hate these storms, just like Lia, when I was little. But you used to love them."

She chuckled and closed her eyes.

"Do you still love them?" he asked her.

"Yes, well somewhat. You know what else I love, Tony?"

"What else do you love, Ziva?"

"You."
