Red
The sun was just moments from reaching the horizon. Already, bursting rays of sunlight were scintillating from behind the northern mountains. From underneath a cocoon of pillows, stuffies, and blankets, a small figure shifted in the broad warm light. Tiny shafts of sunlight crept through a barricade of blinds, but that was enough to arouse the girl underneath as uncomfortable shifting rattled her bed. Blossom stretched out her arms, relieving any cramps in her body. Twice, she heard something crack in her skeletal system. No matter, she just needed to get up and dancing, then she'd be as flexible as ever. Letting out a well overdue yawn, Blossom sighed in content, happy to see that nothing had yet disturbed the tranquil silence lingering in the air. Blossom smiled as her gaze travelled to her beloved red snap back, a warm, soaking red ribbon in her clutch. However, the red-head knew that would soon end as a piercing shriek cut through the air. Yep, everything was normal as always.
That would be her blonde sister, Bubbles. Blossom had always found it odd how they could be triplets when she was a red-head, Bubbles was a blonde, and Buttercup was a brunette, not to mention their different eye colours of blue, green and hers: pink. The shriek was soon followed by a ringing groan of aggravation; pretty obvious who that came from. Blossom rolled her eyes at their childish antics, secretly listening closely to their little banter on sports vs. fashion as she made her way down the corridor to the kitchen. Blossom paused dramatically, for a few seconds to see who'd won the 200th round, before emerging into the room and ending the squabble. Just her presence seemed to silence her siblings. Both heads turned around to look at her.
Let me explain a bit of history here; you see, Bubbles and Buttercup have just always gotten along better, no matter how odd it seems. Most would believe that Blossom would side with either sister, but apparently not in this case. As time had passed by, Blossom soon became excluded from her two sisters, a trio now just a duo. Unlike her once uptight self, Blossom learned to live with that. If it made her sisters happy, then she would abide her time doing other things on her own. Soon, she became so independent she no longer came down for breakfast, or met her sisters at the school entrance, like they once did. But that was many years ago, when they were still a trio of 5 year old super heroes. Now, 10 years in the future, like their powers, the trio simply vanished off the face of earth. Only to re-emerge as a duo. Don't get me wrong, they still don't have their powers. But some things were just meant to stay together; others weren't.
A pregnant silence lingered in the air for what seemed years, but it wasn't the kind of cheerful silence Blossom had been hoping for. With a quick "hi", Blossom subtly hid her face as best as she could and snagged a blueberry bagel off the pantry, before departing from the kitchen and going back to her bedroom. She didn't blame them for being surprised; after all, it'd been at least a good 7 years since she'd stopped going downstairs. It was such a bother, much easier to avoid the silence than to be in it. Mainly, she just waited for her sisters' departure before sneaking in a quick bagel or coffee and then running for school in hopes of making it on time. That was her life now. So different from the one she'd accumulated to be her "perfect future". But Blossom was quick to learn that would never happen, and she stopped hoping for something that wasn't real.
Buttercup and Bubbles stood transfixed, neither of their gazes leaving the pantry. Where their sister had previously taken a bagel, a small, red handprint was left behind. If they'd taken the time to peer closer, they might have seen a tuft of red hair.
