TWISTED SALVATION
I tamed the untamable, Calypso,
Her hurricanes, thunderstorms, tempests, gales.
We would be together forever; O,
How life has grown to be weary and stale!
I now know a terrible truth, too late.
She is no longer mine; never was she.
Reverence turns to disgust, love to hate,
And I, Jones, become the scourge of the sea.
My locket, a gift from her, keeps me sane
Through countless wild, deadly, pitch-black nights
When I play its tune again and again
And thrust poor sailors into shaking fright.
I'm a salesman, selling mutation
And fear, a broken, twisted salvation.
