The Secrets She Keeps
Chapter 1
Ever since Elena Gilbert had been a little girl, she had felt that there was something different about her family, she just couldn't put her finger on it. Until one day she was looking through her mom's files trying to find her birth certificate when instead she found another birth certificate instead. One belonging to a Katherine Gilbert.
Elena's eyebrows stitched together in confusion as she read it over. What the hell was going on here? She looked through more files and found her and her brother Jeremy's as well, but she had no idea who this Katherine was but she had to find out.
At dinner that night, Elena took the file to the dinner table and slid it to her mother whose face drained of color.
"Do you mind explaining this mom?"
She looked down at the file and than back up at Elena. Tears streamed down her face and her mother tried to compose herself.
"Where did you find this?"
"I found it in your office, but that's not the point. Who is Katherine?"
Her mother sighed taking Elena's hand as if she were a child who needed to be calmed.
"I don't know how to tell you this-"
"Why don't you start at the beginning?"
"When I was with your father, I cheated on him with another man. That's when I became pregnant with you and Katherine, but you were your dad's and Katherine. Katherine was the daughter of the other guy. When I gave birth I knew I would be ashamed to look at Katherine every day and remember what I did to your dad. So I gave her up to her father and I haven't seen her ever since."
Elena took her hand from her mothers and looked at her as if she was a monster.
"How the hell could you give up your baby? How the hell could you not tell me I had a sister? Where is she mom? Have you even checked in on her? You're a monster. A true monster."
Before her mother could answer Elena was in her room packing up her necessary stuff and getting the hell out of there. She wasn't sure where Katherine was, but looking at her sister's birth certificate she knew for sure that she would find out.
