I'll Be Back
He stared. His eyes wide in shock. He didn't know how to think or even feel at this moment.
Hazy, emerald eyes met his, and he hid a cringe as he realized the life was slowly leaving them.
"Sakura...why?" Sasuke asked, his voice coming out more as a whisper than he intended. He had no other words. His mind was blank, all he could do was stare.
Sakura coughed, more blood leaving the corner of her mouth, but she smiled through the pain. "You said so yourself, Sasuke-kun." Sakura inhaled and gritted her teeth as a shock of pain rippled through her beaten and broken body. "If you or Naruto die, the world is over. This is war, sacrifices have to be made."
Sasuke watched as Sakura rocked on her feet and, instinctively, he caught her shoulders, steadying her. He contemplated his words. He did say them, they were truthful, but now, as he watched his words come to fruition, he regretted ever saying them. The emotions he felt at the moment were too much to handle, so he did what he did best-he covered them with anger, his hands digging into Sakura's flesh of her shoulders. "Heal yourself," Sasuke commanded, shocked at the emotions laced within.
Sakura smiled again. "I'm trying, but nothing's happening."
A sudden chuckle floated through the air and Sasuke looked past Sakura to see the cause of this predicament: Zetsu.
Sasuke narrowed his eyes. Zetsu grinned, his hand still gripping the handle of his sword, while the other end remained embedded in Sakura's chest. He continued to chuckle before meeting Sasuke's deadly glare.
"She can't heal herself. This sword is much like Kisame's, but better. Once inside, I'm able to absorb all the chakra of the person I stabbed."
Sasuke growled low in his throat, trying hard to push what Zetsu said out of his mind. No, Sakura wasn't going to die...she couldn't. There was too much they had to talk about...he had so much to say.
Zetsu pulled the sword from Sakura and she gasped loudly. Sasuke instantly wrapped his arms around her middle, lowering her gently to the ground.
Zetsu melted into the ground, leaving only his head in view.
Sasuke looked down at Sakura. Her hair was wet with mud and dirt, her lips covered in her own blood, and her chest staining red.
"Don't stay too long, Sasuke-kun. Mother and I are waiting." Zetsu chuckled as he disappeared from view.
Sasuke didn't know what to do. He began to send his own chakra into Sakura. "Sakura, use my chakra to seal the wound."
Sakura grunted in response, but began to harness Sasuke's chakra. Sasuke watched as the large gash began to close. Once it had stopped bleeding, Sasuke cancelled his chakra.
"Listen to me, Sakura. Don't die. Remember how I said I never want to see my precious people die in front of me again...I meant it." He stroked her hair, and Sakura's eyes shimmered with tears and unspoken words. "I have to end this war, but I will come back for you. So don't die."
Sakura nodded, too tired to talk and Sasuke smirked. He stood, his eyes flipping to red instantly, and he was gone. His thoughts of Sakura drifting along with him.
I'll be back...
