A Hug
"Hannah Abbot." Everyone looked up when Professor Sprout called the shy, often hysterical girl due to the stress school sometimes put on her.
Hannah's face went white when she saw the grim look on their Herbology teachers face.
"Professor Dumbledore would like to see you in his office. There is only ten minutes left of class, you may take your stuff with you."
Hannah, her hands shaking violently stuffed her stuff in her bag and ran out of the classroom.

Forty five minutes later many students watched a tear stain faced Hannah leaving the castle with Professor McGonagall. Hannah's mum had just been killed by Voldemorts' Death Eaters. Neville was among the students who watched her leave the castle. He ran after Hannah and McGonagall and got to them just as they had reached the doors that lead to the grounds.
"Hannah." He said, tapping her on the shoulder
She jumped and turned around, "Neville." She said, her voice cracking in the process.
"Make it quick Longbottom." Said McGonagall, she respectfully stepped back, giving them privacy.
Now that Neville was standing there in front of her he had no idea what to say. So he did what he would have wanted her to do if his mum ever died and pulled her into a hug. He felt and heard her break down completely. It broke his heart to hear her sob and feel her shaking.
Hannah didn't need to hear Neville speak to understand that Neville would always be there for her and cared about her, this hug proved it. He eventually stepped back and broke the hug then kissed her forehead, his lips lingering for a couple of seconds.
"Write to me, ok?" Neville asked
Hannah couldn't talk for fear of breaking down again so she just nodded.
Neville squeezed her hand then watched her and Professor McGonagall walk to the gates, wiping his own tears away.

Hannah was really glad that she and Neville had become such good friends, she needed that and none of her other friends seemed to care enough to give her a hug.
End

A/N: I actually got a little teary eyed when I wrote this. Not because I wrote it but because I thought about what a profound moment this would have been and how difficult it would have been for them, I tragedy at this level is overwhelming.
