Bonjour! lol. I got the idea for this little Quasimodo oneshot when watching Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame, and when Frollo says the bit about Quasi's mother, his shock and most likely curiosity about his past. Who wouldn't be? If you found out that your past was a lie, wouldn't you ponder it? This is my quick take on Quasi's thoughts. No flames please.

Disclaimer: I don't own HoND.

Like Mother

"I should have known you'd risk your life to save that gypsy witch! Just as your own mother died, trying to save you."

"What?"

------

Shock etched his features. His mother hadn't abandoned him? She had maybe… loved him? And wanted to raise him? Quasimodo would never know. His ex-master, Frollo, was now dead, and Quasi had no other relations that could fill in the blank pages of his past. Everything he had ever been told about his life was a lie. He had asked the Archdeacon if he had known anything about his family, his parents. The old man knew little, only that Frollo had captured his family, and his father had been killed. Quasimodo asked him about his mother, but at this, the Archdeacon grew very grave, saying that such things were better left unsaid. Quasi could only conclude that his mother was dead as well, and Frollo had done the deed.

Sitting atop the cathedral, watching the city, Quasimodo surprisingly was not too upset to learn of his parent's fate. They were in Heaven now, and he didn't remember them, so it was hard to truly mourn them. But he still felt like a part of him was empty, and always would be. Frollo had taken everything from him- his family, his dignity, and his freedom. But if there was one good thing that Frollo had ever done him, it was telling him that his mother had died to save him.

That meant she had loved him. That she had cared. She didn't think him a monster. Another favor Frollo had done him unintentionally, was telling him that he had saved Esmeralda, his dear friend, like his mother had saved him. Therefore, Quasimodo had a connection with his stranger mother. He smiled at the gorgeous sunset that would make the king himself speechless. He wasn't entirely without his mother. After all, he was just like her.

Feedback would be great! This was my first time doing a HoND fic. I hope someone out there liked it. :D
