WHY HE LOVES HER
Maddison. Drabble-ish. Companion to Why She Loves Him.
He loves her because she never thinks twice in the OR. She never stops and hesitates. She gets it right first time.
He loves her because she doesn't hate Meredith Grey, even though it must be killing her not to. She doesn't bear a grudge because she can accept that she started it.
He loves her because she is always convinced - sometimes wrongly - that she is right. Even about the baby, even about trying to make a broken marriage function.
He loves her because she has to try - even when she knows it's impossible. She has to try so hard to stick everything back together, even when things are broken beyond repair.
He loves her because she saves lives. She stands over tiny, vulnerable, helpless babies on the operating table and she uses her hands to give them a life, to give them a future.
He loves her because she never fails to look her best. Even when everything she holds dear is crashing at her ears, she dresses herself up and makes herself look perfect.
He loves her because she hurts when she loses a patient. She can be a brilliant surgeon by knowing distance, but she's never so separated that she can't cry when a life is taken too soon.
He loves her because she is impulsive. That night, that fateful night the affair started, she wasn't even thinking. Following her heart, not her head.
He loves her because she pretends she's just fine when she's not. She smiles to everyone and does her job brilliantly and never lets anyone see her cry.
He loves her because she knows she's beautiful, long red hair framing her face and those piercing blue eyes staring out from a perfectly sculpted face.
He loves her because she pretends to hate him when she's mad. Because she doesn't give in like every other woman on the planet.
He loves her because she's defiant. She can stare Derek in the eye and not crumple because she knows it's her fault.
He loves her because sometimes she just can't resist. Sometimes she just lets herself go, lets him hold her and lets him in.
He loves her because she broke that stupid pact. And because she let him lie afterwards.
He loves her because she loses faith in herself. Very rarely, but then she needs him to tell her what she is worth, and how much he cares.
He loves her because she tries to run away from him but always keeps running back in the end, insistent that that was her plan all along.
He loves her because he knows that she knows deep down that she loves him, but she's too proud to admit it.
He loves her because she is.
