Breakdown

Pain grips at his heart, not because his friend, his lover, his husband is gone, but because he is reduced to this; breaking down in his daughter's arms. Her arms are long and skinny as they wrap around him, huddling him to her.

"Shh," she whispers into his ear. "Shh, it'll be okay daddy, you and me, together forever."

And that only makes him cry harder, because that's what his husband told him, "I'll love you forever, you and me, together forever."

His beautiful little girl looks so much like him, and it hurts, but she's all he has left.
