Sometimes, when it doesn't irritate her Yubaba finds her workers' obsession with the train to be nothing short of hilarious.

The reason is simple, so very simple, and it's so simple that Yubaba, sitting in her high tower, luxuriating in her opulent apartments, has to laugh because they've never noticed it themselves. What simpletons.

Yubaba wonders if any of her workers have ever stopped to think on a certain fact. That train they all pine after, it doesn't actually take them anywhere. It leads them around and around in circles, and though they see enough wondrous sights to last for lifetimes on end, but the train doesn't actually take them anywhere at all.

"I wonder if any of them will ever figure out what boarding on that train means," Yubaba muses to herself. "I wonder if any of them will ever figure out that boarding the train is death."

Because after all, boarding the train means only one thing:

Death everlasting, and the eventual fade away into nothingness, unless they have tickets or they know who they are.

And Yubaba has no intention of ever letting her workers get their hands on either.
