A/N: This is just a random drabble from a prompt: Amy as the Master/a different Time Lord. It's sort of general, just hinting at it, but I'm still pleased.
She wasn't sure how long she had possessed the watch. She knew that it was old and was surely broken. The curlicue designs etched into the gold were beautiful, if a bit strange.
She kept it in her pocket usually, as she liked the feeling of the cold metal against her pal. But this time she left it on the kitchen table. It was on a light green platter and was partially covered up by that morning's mail. She was in a hurry and had forgotten the watch in her haste.
It was entirely by chance then, that her husband Rory found it. He had been sifting through the stack of bills and magazine subscriptions, only half paying attention as he sipped some coffee. He saw the edge, glinting cheerily in the morning sunshine.
"Since when has Amy had a fob watch?" he wondered aloud, holding the thing up closely. Rory shrugged and was just setting it down when he heard a strange noise.
A whispering voice was issuing from the golden watch. "I've seen some weird things," he said slowly, not sure who exactly he was addressing—himself or the watch. "But a talking watch? An alien watch?"
All of a sudden, Rory found himself pressing down the side of it. The whispering grew louder. A golden mist, sparkling with energy, was swirling around the peculiar object. He thought vaguely of the time the Doctor died—the same mist that was here now had been there then, twinkling merrily about his face and arms despite the urgency of the situation.
The clockface itself had numbers in no language that Rory recognised or could decipher. It certainly wasn't English, and he was doubtful that the thing originated from Earth.
In a fog, he snapped the watch closed, breathing heavily as if he had been running. How had Amy managed to get her hands on something like this?
When his heart had stopped pounding and his head had cleared, Rory laughed at himself. "The Doctor gave it to her," he said. That was obvious. He had even seen similar symbols decorating the TARDIS' interior.
"Probably a birthday gift," Rory murmured. Then he set the watch back on the kitchen table and left for work.
