Hey, guys. I'm hoping to turn this next one into a seven-part series, depending on the feedback.
Disclaimer: Thank you, Joss, for the kick ass series formerly known as Firefly. I own nothing.
Pairing: Mal/Inara-always!
Summary: Aftermath of events of BDM, I know a lot of people have done these, but I couldn't pass up this chance.
Ain't No-one To Hear You Cry Out Here In The Black
Mal
Mal liked the dark.
In the dark you couldn't see his pale, lifeless eyes, the scars on his body from a lifetime of war, his wounded expression that had been permanently tattooed on his face.
It was in his bunk, under a blanket of darkness that he cried.
He cried for his men, living and dead, for the lives that could have been.
He cried for his mother. What would she say if she saw him now? Would she recognise him?
He cried for Shepherd Book and Wash and for all their other fallen comrades.
He cried for all that remained of his crew. He knew they'd follow him to the end of the 'verse. They needed a leader. But how could he lead them, when he himself was lost?
He buried his head in his pillow to stop the cry that rose from the depths of his soul. But it didn't matter.
'Cause there ain't no-one to hear you cry out here in the black.
