Author's note: So, this is just a fanfic about Alex, because his death scene really made me sad, even though I knew it was coming. I own absolutely nothing.

He wasn't inherently evil. Really, Alan- Alanna- had once been his friend. A really good friend. They had been close, Jon, Gary, Raoul, Alanna and himself, as close as brothers. Brothers and sister, really. He had never wanted to kill Alanna, or any of them. They had been his friends, and she had been on his level of skill. But when he became Roger's squire, his nature, one that desired power, had been corrupted, as Roger was corrupting Thom's magic.

Even though he knows that he is preparing to go kill someone who had once cared about him as much as anyone, the realization would not sink in. He was numb to whatever any of them said. He heard Delia preparing to go to the coronation, but why should he go? With his time as squire to Roger, Roger had used his persuasive personality to convince Alex that Jon was bad, and that Alanna was to blame for Francis' death.

As he put on his black clothes, he thought back to years before, as they had knelt before Francis' body. And then he remembered how Alanna had hidden her magic from them all, how she hadn't saved him, that original member of their group. And his heart went cold. Today would come his final dual, the one where the Lioness would die. Roger had asked what he desired out of this plan, where Jon would die. The others thought Roger would become king in Jon's place. Alex knew that Roger had not liked being woken by a young sorcerer, and wanted to die, and bring about as much destruction as was possible when he died. And even Roger did not know what Alex was getting out of this.

With a final, twisted smile, Alex finished preparing and left the room.

Author's note: Well, I hope you enjoyed it. As to what Alex is getting out of it, I still don't know and doubt I will ever figure it out. Please review!
