Emperor Griffin leaned back and smiled. It was a good day today. His birthday party was in full swing, he was pleasantly tipsy and he liked his presents so far.
"Emperor Griffin?" a timid voice asked and he turned to see one of his soldiers standing there looking nervous.
"Yes? What is it?" He asked pleasantly and the soldier gave him a gift-wrapped present.
"A few of us banded together to buy you a present." The soldier said and Griffin smiled.
"Why thank you." He replied and took the gift. He unwrapped it slowly, being careful not to make a mess of the paper. Discarding the paper, he stared in disbelief. This had to be some kind of bad joke surely?
"The Max and Monica action figures!" The Griffin Soldier exclaimed excitedly. "Now you can replay all of their greatest victories!"
Griffin stared at the Griffin Soldier in front of him in disbelief. Surely this creature wasn't serious?
"And of course you can collect the whole set!" the soldier burbled on happily.
"Yes…well you should return to your post." Griffin said in a dazed voice. The Griffin Soldier skipped away.
"So, did it work?" Max asked the Griffin Soldier, who smiled at him.
"Like a charm. He didn't even skewer me. Now pay up."
Max pulled out a handful of coins and handed them over.
"Do you have any more stupid bets?" The Soldier asked sarcastically.
"Well now you come to mention it…"
