Bang!

The bullet flew through the air. It rotated as it projected itself towards his soft, smooth skin.
He felt it, as he always did, the rounded point of the bullet mould to his skin.

He felt it, as it burst through the first layer on his forehead, the crack of it shattering his skull.
Then the familiar darkness began to swallow him, as his toned body fell to the floor.

***

Pitch black.

Something was lurking in the darkness. It was always there, greeting him with its invisible presence.
He knew it was waiting for him, waiting for the time when he would no longer be pulled over broken
glass and ripped painfully back from the dead.

He too waited for this time, a time when he would never have to go back to the pain, to the suffering.
All those who had loved him, who He had let down. Who now reside in the darkness. Alone, scared?

*-*

He felt a new presence around him.

"Jack" A husky voice echoed in the distance.

His conscience must be playing a trick on him.

"… remember me Jack, please"

In the darkness the new presence came nearer. It brought warmth into his soul.
It can't be. It couldn't be, after all these years?

"I love you"

Those last words hung in the darkness.
Memories tore in his head. He could feel his chest tighten.

He'd choked.
When his Ianto had said those three words, he'd choked. Unable to comprehend that his lover was dying.
He should have said it. It was his last chance.
'I love you too'
Four simple little words.
But he had let his love drift into the darkness, without the words that he deserved to hear.

He could see it now, a familiar figure in the shadows. It was coming towards him.
He sat frozen darkness, as he willed it too be true.
That gorgeous frame, so often covered by a suit, glided through the darkness,
coming to rest merely a few feet away. His body tingled as their eye locked.

"Yan… Ianto?"

That adorable smile that he had missed so much appeared on the younger mans face.

"Jack, you remember me?" Ianto looked down, uncertain of what his captain would say.

Here he was, the man he loved, the man he had lost in his arms, all those years ago. How could he forget?

"I promised you didn't I?" Jack whispered as he lifted Ianto's chin.

Ianto collapsed into his arms. Jack could feel his tears, mixing with his own, as they feel down his cheek.
Ianto hiccupped as he pulled back, he wanted to look into those strong, loving blue eyes.
Even in the darkness they managed to sparkle.

As Ianto gazed intently into his eyes, Jack felt his soul serge with warmth.
Slowly he drew the young man nearer, wiping away his tears.
With their eyes locked, their lips brushed. Their arms held tight as the kiss deepened.
They forced each others mouth open and their tongues went in search of the comfort they so dearly desired.
Breaking for a moment Jack took his chance.

"I love you too."

At the sound of those words, those four little words, he felt Ianto smile.

"I know Jack…"

His presence was being pulled back, what felt like broken glass raked into his skin as Ianto slipped through his grip.

"And that's why I'll always be here, here waiting for you" Ianto smiled as he disappeared into the dark.

The light was blinding as Jack was dragged back to life. He gasped for breath, and his body lurched upwards.
He sat up slowly, and leaned against the brick wall beside him.

His collar felt damp, and reaching to his face he felt the tears that had dried on his cheeks.
He still had the sweet taste of Ianto in his mouth.

A small smile snuck onto his face.

Ianto will always be there, there waiting for him.
