** Stars **

The night sky was illuminated with glowing stars, burning far away in the universe. Alice Trevanion stood underneath them, looking up at each one, noticing how each one seemed to shine brighter than the last. She felt Danny's hand brush past her back softly, and wrap his arms around her waist.

"Couldn't sleep?" He asked, following her gaze up into the night sky.

"No" She sighed

"It's beautiful isn't it?" He smiled, "The african sky"

"Yes" She nodded, "It is. It puts things into perspective"

"How?" He wondered, kissing the top of her head lightly

"I come out here when I need to think, and wonder if someone else is doing the same as me. Looking at the same sky. Looking at the same stars. Looking for the same answers" She told him absently, still staring up into space and beyond

"Who knows" Danny shrugged, "I always thought stars were the people we've lost looking down on us. See that one there? That's Miranda. The one next to her is Sarah. The brightest stars in the sky"

"I like that" Alice smiled, "That's a nice thought"

"It helps" Danny nodded, "Knowing they're always looking out for me"

"I've never thought of it that way before" She said, glancing in his direction, "But, it makes sense. You're following your heart and not listening to science or reason. Everything doesn't have to have an explanation does it?"

"No, it doesn't" He agreed

"I was told that your heart does things that reason can't understand, so why do we listen to reason so much when life should be about living your dreams? In a dream you can be who you want to be, not what everyone expects you to be. In life, you fit in with what everyone else, and that's the way it was meant to be. But, then you come outside and look into the stars and you wonder who made all these silly rules. Clearly, they never thought much of the night sky"

"Where's all this come from?" He asked, looking at her with concern

"I don't know" She frowned "Maybe I think too much"

"Let's go to bed" Danny told her, tugging on her arm gently.

"Ok" Alice nodded, allowing herself to be led into the house. She looked up at the sky one last time and saw both Miranda's and Sarah's stars twinkling. Maybe Danny was right.

"Goodnight" She whispered, smiling up at them, as they sparkled in reply.

This is dedicated to the person who saw plenty of stars when travelling with The Doctor, one of the best companions, Elizabeth Sladen. I wanted to do something to show she will be greatly missed, so I wrote this. Some of these things came from a conversation me and a friend had late last night, where we got pretty philosophical. I don't know if this will make much sense, but it does to me...and I wanted to make this personal tribute

RIP My Sarah Jane Smith xxx
