The Daily Prophet of 3rd May, 1998 was dropped on Draco's table. He took it and looked at the front page. 'THE DARKNESS IS LIFTED FROM THE WIZARDING WORLD, LORD VOLDEMORT IS DEAD!' It read. Draco sighed. He would be thrown to Azkaban now. He opened the Prophet to see articles on Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley and the Order of the Phoenix in it. Draco put the paper down and ran a hand through his platinum locks. He got up and got dressed, the Ministry officials would come to get him. As known, Draco Malfoy was a Death Eater, the son of a notorious Death Eater Lucius Malfoy. The officials came an hour later. Draco was taken to the Ministry. He immediately saw Harry Potter standing there. The officials gave Draco the Veritaserum, the truth potion, he was questioned by the Ministry officials. He answered everything truthfully. Potter told something to one of the officials, to which he nodded. "We want to know why you chose to be a Death Eater." Potter said. Draco gulped. Bloody Potter! He could resist answering. "It was a week after my sixteenth birthday. I was talking to my mother when my father entered the room. He told me to go somewhere with him. I accepted to go. But then, he took me to a place, it was crowded with Death Eaters. There, in a throne, sat the Dark Lord himself. He told me that he needed my help. When I asked how can he be helped by me, he told me to repair some vanishing cabinet in the school to let the Death Eaters in and kill Dumbledore. I was shocked. I made up my mind and refused to do so." Here, Draco saw Potter's eyes widen. "But then, he threatened me. He used the Cruciatus curse on me, and then on my father. He told me that if I don't obey his orders and take the Dark Mark, he will kill my parents." Draco's grey-blue orbs welled up with tears, a moment later which began to fall freely. Potter was shocked. He had never seen his enemy like this. He was looking so weak. "He killed my mother, Potter. V-voldemort killed my mother." Draco said with tearful eyes, his voice hoarse. Potter seemed to understand him. He held a short meeting with the Minister, while Draco was sobbing silently. A few minutes later, he returned with the Minister. 'Now he will sentence me to Azkaban.' Draco thought sadly. The Minister, Kingsley Shacklebolt looked at him with scrutinizing eyes. "I would like to see your memories of that evening, Draco." He said. Draco looked up at him and nodded. "Yes, Minister." The Minister used Legilimency to go inside Draco's head, and as he did not know Occlumency, his every thoughts and memories were clear to the Minister. He felt him watch the events of that evening. After he was finished, the Minister looked at the blonde before him and said, "You have not done anything wrong, Draco. And you have not used any of the Unforgivables on anybody. We are declaring you clear of all charges." Draco's eyes widened and he stood up quickly. "So, I am not going to Azkaban?" He asked. The Minister smiled and shook his head. Draco turned to Potter and smiled at him. "Thanks, Potter." He confessed. "It's alright Malfoy. You may be an utter git to me, but you don't deserve a dark future in Azkaban." Potter said with a smile. "So, will you help us to rebuild Hogwarts?" Potter asked. Draco nodded. "I'll join. But for now, I'm going home." He said and went outside of the room. He apparated near the dark Manor and went inside, happiness filling his mind.
