kim-onka disclaims Darker than BLACK

As promised, a little piece about Yin and Hei :)

Yin couldn't tell what it was or when or how it had started, but she was aware of something being there between her and Hei, suspended in the air around them when they were together, infusing her with quiet warmth whenever she thought of him; a sensation woven from multitude of factual memories, impassive looks, hesitant grips and scarce words.

It was in the way Hei said her name and she said his, voices softening around the vowels, dropping into a whisper of suspension and a silence of reassurance: Hei is with Yin, and Yin is with Hei.

It was in the sound of wind combing her long hair and her shoes clicking against the pavement as they ran together, holding hands, towards an end which just might be happier for someone.

It was in the sudden fear of being left alone clenching at her heart, it was in the wave of relief washing over her when Hei grabbed her spectral hand.

It was the reason Hei stayed with her, escaped with her and protected her; it was in the way Hei reached for her hand and led her away after another battle, into another haven of temporary safety.

It was in their steps as she walked with Hei along the seashore in long, lazy summer afternoons, feeling sand between her toes and listening to the murmur of waves, for once indulging in the soft touch of water rather than trying to see into it.

It was in Hei's arms that lifted her gently into a desperately protective embrace, in the beat of Hei's heart she pressed her ear against; in her own arms wrapping around him in response and in Hei's tense voice promising to be by her side and pleading her not to leave him alone.

It was in the nights Hei watched over her sleep and in the days Hei grabbed her hand.

It might have been little, but for Yin, who had had nothing, so little became so much.
