Bella POV
I walked through the stately front door, expecting a happy Alice to come bounding to the door followed by the love of my life Edward, but what actually greeted me was nothing like what I had imagined. Edward seated at the stunning piano was weaving a complex melody that twisted and turned through a heart wrenching minor key. But his fingers weren't the only ones flying through twists and turns. Alice, perched on the nearby couch was focusing intently on her flying arms and hands. She was surrounded by many different colors and textures. From her fingers came a long, knotted, bunch of squashy yarn. The black string was flecked with other colors and looked very cozy but whatever Alice's blurred arms were doing with it changed it into something entirely unworldly.
Edward immediately stopped playing just as soon as I closed the door behind be and rushed to my side taking my hand and breathing in my scent. He allowed me to give him a quick kiss on the cheek before Alice lithely soared over, took both my hands and half dragged me over to her spongy nest of colors.
"Bella!" she exclaimed, "You simply must see what I've done!" I glanced at the tangle of fibers around me. The monstrosity of a scarf hanging from the glittery sticks had a huge number of flaws. The contrast between it and its creator was hilarious. I laughed. Alice's bright eyes dulled and looked hurt but soon brightened again.
"I had a vision of me knitting and it looked like so much fun!" she explained. "But it's a lot harder then it looks." Her frustration clearly heard.
Edward came over, snaking his arm around my waist. His dark eyes quickly appraised the situation and his facial expression turned to one of confusion.
"It's knitting!" I said for Alice.
"Or it was supposed to be" she interjected. "I'm not very good at it." Esme came into the room, having heard the whole conversation.
"Alice! I didn't know you wanted to learn how to knit, I know how. Or I used to. It's been so long. Let's see if I can figure out this mess." She sat down and took up the web and its ensnared needles. Edward and I sat down on the adjacent love seat and Alice in a neighboring arm chair. "Let's begin"
