After spending the night in a motel to keep an eye on Jenna, it was time for Spencer to go home. Toby finished putting the rest of her things into her car and turned to look at her. "If it gets too uncomfortable at home... I'm here for one more night you can always come back" he said nervously, keeping his eyes on her. He knew how life was at home with her parents and sister who expected so much from her.
Spencer smiled "I might actually take you up on that" she replied back. He returned the smile. She shifted on the spot awkwardly, knowing that they didn't complete their mission of finding out what Jenna was up to and the message from A only brought up more questions "I'm sorry this was a bust…" She said, her smile fading.
"It wasn't a complete wash" Toby said immediately to reassure her and her smile slowly returned. "To be honest it was really fun to kick your ass at scrabble" he said proudly with a grin. He couldn't believe he had defeated Spencer Hastings, the girl who had to win at everything. She stared at him, shocked by his sudden attitude to winning. She wasn't ready to admit defeat. She was a Hastings, after all.
Before she could realize what he was doing, he moved towards her. His lips collided with hers and his hands found her waist. She was caught off guard at the sudden gesture. Her hand moved to his chest as she returned the kiss. They slowly pulled away from the kiss and their foreheads touched. Both surprised at what had just happened."I was... not expecting that" Spencer said quietly with a wide smile.
"Me either" Toby replied, taken back by what he had just done but ended up enjoying. They stood there for a moment with their foreheads touching and their hands on each others waists. Closer than they had ever been before. He didn't understand how all this time he had only seen her as Mr and Mrs Hastings' over achieving daughter. The time they had spent together had proved his views about her wrong. Toby let his hands slide slowly off of Spencer's waist and caught her hand as he backed away towards the motel room. They smiled at each other as their hands drifted apart.
As Toby walked away, Spencer stared in awe. She suddenly remembered their scrabble game and what he has said. Her smile turned to a frown. "Hey, it was not a complete ass kicking by the way" she called to him as he walked away, any thoughts of admitting her defeat during the scrabble game were gone. She knew she would win next time.
"Goodbye Spencer" Toby said with a grin on his face as he walked back into the motel. He liked the sore loser side of her. Once he was gone her smile returned. She thought about the kiss and how much she enjoyed it. New feelings flooded through her. Feelings for Toby Cavanaugh that had not been there before. She left the motel wearing his shirt and the feeling of their first kiss still on her lips. Any thoughts she had previously had about him were gone. He was nothing like how Ali had made him out to be.
