This is a response to the Mean Girls challenge where you're given a quote and you have to write a fic incorporating it. See if you can find it. ;)
"YOU'RE WHAT!?" Molly and Arthur Weasley bellowed in unison.
Ronald shrugged his shoulders and said, "Gay."
Ron had only somewhat recently figured this out about himself. For years he thought himself in love with Hermione. But now he could see that he was only infatuated in her knowledge and fierceness and deeply respected her for it. He reclined into what some would say was an insolent pose and watched his parents reaction. He knew that they would accept him for who he was, but that hadn't made him any less anxious to tell them. But now that the cat was out of the bag, he sat back to breathe a bit and watch his parents go from outrageous incredulity to thoughtful acceptance.
Ginny, who was, for whatever reason, reading a book while Ron came out of the closet and, without even looking up from her novel said in an almost bored voice, "Calm down mum, or you'll burst the vein in your forehead. It's not a huge deal; and Ron, you shouldn't be so worried. Remember when Seamus came out to his mum? She fainted and practically split her head open on a nearby coffee table. Mum hasn't done either, so I suggest you unclench the nervous fists you get."
Ron looked down at his hands and saw that they were indeed clamped together, his nails digging into his flesh. He quickly released them and blessed Ginny for cutting the tension. His mother actually seemed calmer and his father had quickly progressed into the quiet thoughtful phase that came after shock.
"So, um…" his father started awkwardly. "Have you met someone you… like?"
"Is it Harry?" his mother asked as bluntly as anyone ever could.
From instinct, both of Molly's present children recoiled and said either "ew" or "Merlin's pants no!".
Ron rolled his eyes and said, "Mum, you should know that I only think of Harry as a brother. However, his messy hair is positively charming. I can see why you're so smitten Ginny! It's the bad boy aura he has, even though he's nothing but a goody goody."
Ginny, who had resumed her reading said in the same monotonous voice, "Ron, you have truly outgayed yourself."
Ron rolled his eyes again and looked over at his mum who seemed a little stunned. But his father seemed to take it in stride.
"Oh, by the way Ron, Harry said he would meet you at the office at three. It's kind of 2:50 now, so I suggest you leave pronto," Ginny said as casually as could be.
Ron grabbed his coat and snarled, "Why didn't you tell me this earlier?"
She shrugged and said, "I figured coming out was a little more important."
He shook his head and made for the door, kissing his mum and dad on the way out. "We love you Ron!" his mother called after him. He smiled to himself. He loved them too.
