"Avery, darling, how many times must I ask you to call me by my first name. It's not bad for a name, really. Say it with me: Reg-u-lus."
"Shut it, Black, before I hex you into next term."
Avery Hunnam and Regulus Black were sitting next to each other in the library studying. Well, Avery was studying while Regulus was annoying the living bejesus out of her. Merlin, didn't the guy ever get tired of listening to himself talk? Apparently not, for he kept trying to coax her into a conversation with him.
"Oooh, Defense Against the Dark Arts! Very exciting," he stated, lifting the cover of the book that she was reading, and examining it. "You know, DADA just happens to be my forte. Perhaps I could help you study, Hunnam?" He proposed with his usual grin.
"I am perfectly capable of defending myself already, Black, without your instruction or protection." She replied, trying to focus on her book, though it was growing increasingly harder, what with him constantly pestering her.
"Ouch, icy, Hunnam...Well, I suppose we could simply snog instead."
"Or you could leave," Avery countered.
"Or we could shag."
"Or you could go away before I make it very uncomfortable to shag anyone else," She came back in a cool tone whilst still looking at her DADA book and scribbling notes. She turned her head up with an innocent smile to see him watching her in horror.
"Jesus, Hunnam! No reason to get so feisty," he said, his voice filled with its usual cockiness. "And anyway," he added, "you know you would be sad if I couldn't shag or impregnate you any longer."
"Keep telling yourself that, Black". Damn, no progress, he thought. Still on last names. He would have to keep on coming with the comments.
Regulus was quiet for a second, thinking of what he should do next, before leaning over and whispering in Avery's ear, "You look so incredibly sexy when you study." Avery looked up, and for a moment, he thought she might be coming around, but she surprised him and lost it, slamming her book shut, causing people to look up. Damn, that backfired. Usually works. Oh well.
She started packing up her bookbag, having difficulty with the number of large textbooks already in it, while Regulus continued talking.
"Hey Hunnam, what do you say to Hogsmeade next weekend avec moi?"
"I say 'No'," Avery replied, and began to walk away.
Regulus paused, looking her over and thinking.
"So this whole hard-to-get thing, how long will it last?" he asked as he followed her out of the library. "Because I'm starting to get a little desperate."
"Desperate for what?" she asked with a smirk. "A shag?"
"Maybe. Always open to the idea." He said, the usual smirk appearing on his face.
Suddenly, she stopped walking and turned towards him. "Well, how about this, Black: I'll go to Hogsmeade with you when you stop shagging all the whores I know you're with, stop swearing, and stop nagging me."
At first, Regulus wasn't sure if Avery was serious, and looked at her, searching for an answer. When he saw that she was, he immediately accepted: "Deal."
"Alright." Avery said like she had just signed a contract with some big firm. As she was walking away, she added, over her shoulder, "Oh, and a little persuasion never hurts."
Regulus watched her, smirking, as she walked away. "Stop starring at my arse, Black." He laughed; how had she known?
This was going to be the beginning of one very interesting relationship.
