A little oneshot about a day in the life of Zack Fair
You go to battle. You kill people. This people have family but it's you or them. The first time is worst then it gets better but you still care. And it doesn't go away except you also give up your humanity.
It is a job. Something you get paid for and while you are about to kill so many people who have all family you joke around and just live your life because it is the only time you can since you don't have much vacation.
And when it's just a normal day when you have to fight why was today so different? I know how it goes, what is to do. It doesn't matter if you use your sword or materia. You'll kill your opponent before he overpowers you.
Just like every other day as a SOLDIER. But somehow it was different.
Blood covers your sword's blade some is on your skin or is soaked by the fabric of your clothing. It isn't just blood it is death because you know that the people are dead. That it is the blood of warriors you killed. A fluid of life but still a sign of death.
The fight starts. The fight ends. And in between there are moves, strategic, cold calculated thoughts. There is no joking anymore. You have to shut emotions off. Survive. The only thought. The most important thought. Like I already said. It's you or them. Or for me it is me or them. It is an instinct you just follow.
But today this instinct feels so wrong.
It was me or you.
I had to shut off my emotions.
I followed my instincts.
I have been a SOLDIER.
But it does feel so wrong.
My opponent had had family and friends but I have friends and family too.
It was nothing special just something quite ordinary, as I said. Like any other day.
Just that I don't have to think about how the loved ones will find out about what happened.
Today wasn't extraordinary except the fact that I, Zack Fair, didn't kill an enemy but my mentor and best friend Angeal Hewley.
Like I said… No like I didn't say today was nothing like any day before!
