Author's Note: Written for the QLFC Daily Prophet 2 Competition
Write a poem inspired by Care of Magical Creatures.
They say that the founders of Rome, themselves,
witnessed the age of your birth
In fangs and fur and brotherly strife
they carved you from salt of the earth
You are their Frankenstein's monster and child
Made from the best of two lives
Your breath can blow a house apart
But your compassion still thrives
Small cub, what are you crying for
Your pack is as big and as strong
As Northern wind on a starry night
How could you think you were wrong?
Twenty-five days as a man are all yours
Then three as a howl, loud and raw
Don't look at us as if we hung the moon
That wasn't our tragic flaw
Ours was to call you both Being and Beast
Beauty, you know, 's from within
Don't let us huff and then puff your walls down
Don't let us easily win
Now we will tend to your festering wounds
Treat you with silver and gold
Perhaps you will die, and perhaps you will live
But your story will never grow old
